Summary

I have written the summary below in the time between the power having been cut and later having been restored following a complaint filed with the City of Toronto. Back when my residence was under the assault most likely orchestrated by the Landlord through Superintendent James, I emailed the following to three officials who, I thought, were in a position to do something about this incredible situation.

For reasons beyond my control and despite my best efforts, I find my security threatened by my Landlord's abusive and violent actions. In particular, my power (electricity) has been illegally cut since Thursday and despite a detailed complaint called in to the EIU on the same day, it's still off today. My door was also forced open without notice and police had come more than once at my request.

At the time of the shutdown, I had just filed the first 14 pages of a T2-Tenant Rights application with the Ltb but I could not get the file number, nor could I confer with my legal representative in time. Furthermore, the rent is current and so is the Hydro bill, which suggests that cutting the power was a retaliatory step.

Counting on my inability to record his actions and the element of surprise, the landlord, through superintendent James, has attempted illegal entry, w/o notice or even knocking on more than one occasion. The first time I called the Police they did not press charges, telling me that this is a civil matter and it will be resolved lawfully, by the Board. They also asked me to show them our contract, which established that I had the right to be in. On the second such attempt, my 911 call was answered in person by a police team after the intruders had left (neighbors had definitely heard them).

My situation is desperate because I cannot be at the door 24/7. Secondly, the lack of power isolates me from the outside world and places me at the mercy of neighbors I had no time to meet, who may also be fearing retaliation from the landlord. I cannot update or modify my LTB application, nor can I contact my legal representative. Last but not least, I cannot even leave this nightmare behind as I cannot take all my belongings with me in one go, as I am undergoing treatment after an MVA. As soon as I'd leave, I'd risk the Landlord changing the locks. My belongings are not many or large, but are very fragile and I am mostly concerned about data storage units that are very easily damaged.

I am only asking that the Landlord and his agents are held to the standards set by law and those entrusted with enforcing and upholding the law do their job. My power/electricity must be restored so that I can defend and enforce my rights.

I posted and will post relevant documents [on this website] and currently live at 28 balmoral drive unit 306.

Things have changed by now, but the time I had lost being unable to do my work or to move out will never come back.
